Interpreting

Interpreting requires not only language skills, but also a good understanding of the cultural environment of the speakers. The interpreter must be responsive and skilfull, to facilitate the communication between people of diverse languages and cultures. He must also mastery the various interpreting techniques and be able to to adapt to the diverse subjects and areas he covers. As an interpreter, I have worked for many sectors: cinema, photography, visual arts, music, literature, environment, defense, agriculture, cosmetics, science, medicine, geopolitics, sport, among others.

My language combinations are: French<>English<>Portuguese*.

Simultaneous interpreting

The interpreter translates in real time, while the speakers speak. Simultaneous interpretating requires fixed (interpretation booth and headsets) or portable (transmitter and headsets) equipment.

Consecutive interpreting

The interpreter translates after the speaker has paused. The speaker has to pause frequently to allow the interpreter to translate. This modality does not require any particular equipment, except a notepad, because it is essential that the interpreter takes notes when the pauses are at widely spaced intervals. Whispered interpreting is a variant designed for one or two listeners: the interpreter translates in real time by whispering in the ear of the participant(s).

Remote interpreting

Simultaneous and consecutive interpreting can be done remotely, via a videoconferencing platform. It is the best solution for webinars, or meetings, when participants are located in different countries.

Prices

Interpreting services are charged per day (8h) or half-day (4h). Extra hours may be charged, if the duration of the event exceeds 8 hours. Coverage of professional expenses (travel, accommodation, meals) is negotiated according to each mission. Do not hesitate to send me your project to obtain a precise quote.

*I translate from Spanish, but not into Spanish (passive Spanish).
